Double-Tap design

Every once in a while you design/draw something and you know you nailed it in the first pass. Had one of those days today.
My full time work is in the toy industry, doing packaging and product design. Generally speaking, there are many masters to serve in this sort of work. Creative Directors, Corporate owners, Sales Executives, and Retail buyers. They all have different ideas about what does and doesn’t work in packaging/product and it’s a constant balancing act making all of those voices heard and keeping the work from turning into jambalaya.
Today I designed something and I killed it ON THE FIRST PASS. That’s not to say I’ve reinvented product packaging or that it’s even the best thing I’ve ever designed. Neither is true in this case. What IS true is that it captures the tone of the product, is relatively uncluttered, and is visually striking. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to pick up the product and say “ooooh, this looks cool.”
Usually, designs go through several, if not dozens of iterations before I get to something everyone is happy with. Days like this don’t come along to often, so I’m gonna savor it.
